“For better or for better” – Desmond and Leah Tutu reaffirm their vows 60 years on

On Thursday, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu and his wife, Leah, celebrated their 60-year anniversary by renewing their wedding vows. The ceremony took place the St George’s Cathedral in Cape Town, with their daughter Reverend Mpho Tutu officiating. In true Desmond Tutu style, the ceremony was filled with laughter and love as the couple joked about their marriage. Tutu’s wife, Leah, made quips about him not being as handsome as the first time they said “I do”.

Tutu paid tribute to her, saying that she had been the backbone of their family during his involvement in the anti-apartheid liberation movement.

Tutus as newlyweds“Thank you very much, I would not be anywhere near to what God got to make me without you. I owe all that I am to you,” Tutu affectionately said to his wife.

    Awww!

The couple will have another ceremony to celebrate their milestone on Saturday at the Holy Cross Anglican Church in Soweto.
