Thousands marched through the streets of Soweto, south of Johannesburg, on Monday to commemorate the 38th anniversary of the 16th June 1976 student uprisings in which hundreds of school going children were killed by the apartheid government after the students protested the use of Afrikaans as a medium of instruction in schools.
