The social-media generation: “Would someone please acknowledge me?” [Video]

Are we, emotionally, a “culture of seven-year-olds?” This is the slightly scary and super-sobering question posed by Zen Pencil’s video animation, Marc Maron: The Social Media Generation.

With our techno parents Twitter and Facebook satisfying the child within, the video suggests that what we all desperately crave is for people to view the lives that we live online and to respond: “We see you, we love you, we care that you are there.”

We suppose the makers of the video are not excused from such behaviour  – surely they too crave affirmation for their clever-clever animation? But hey, it’s always easier to be snarky about other people’s online cries for attention that your own.

For an eerie reality check in less than two minutes, watch the video.
