The Academy, founded by DWF in partnership with in partnership with the In-Transformation Initiative (ITI), aims to empower the successful applicants with the skills to create a transparent and accountable values-based society in South Africa.

“Youth, the future of South Africa, want to take on more leadership roles in society,” says Academy project manager Noxolo Ntaka. “Through mentorship and training, the Academy will give 30 selected participants the practical skills they can take back into their communities to make them better equipped community leaders.”

The curriculum will be delivered through three residential modules in different provinces during the year and using an online learning platform to support learning outside of the formal modules.

The curriculum of the Democracy Works Academy will help participants to understand the critical challenges facing South Africa, key among them healthcare, education, poverty and inequality. Participants will become part of a national network of individuals. The foundation may offer support and assistance to delegates who complete the training to implement a community project.

DWF believes that democracy is always a work in progress and that it requires committed networks of citizens in order to ensure that the values of our democracy are upheld. The Academy will bring together a diverse group of citizens from across South Africa and hopes to assist them to make a lasting contribution to building our democracy.

DWA is a partnership initiative between Democracy Works Foundation (DWF) and the In Transformation Initiative (ITI).
