AU summit: meeting in a time of xenophobia

This week’s African Union (AU) summit in South Africa, will address conflicts in Burundi, South Sudan and Libya, among others, as well as the threat of militant group Boko Haram.

However, the choice of South Africa as a replacement venue for the summit after Chad pulled out is hardly auspicious. We may not be embroiled in an armed conflict, but our xenophobic tendencies pose plenty of danger for our African brothers and sisters.
