News that the fence around President Jacob Zuma’s private home in Nkandla is already collapsing has angered South Africans still hoping that the president will pay back some of the R246-million in state funds spent on “security upgrades” such as fencing, landscaping and paving, the installation of an amphitheatre and swimming pool, and the building of a cattle kraal and chicken run. Repairing the fence may leech even more public funds but at this point many people simply have an intense feeling of schadenfreude.
